ANGKLUNGS

Angklungs originate in Indonesia and are a unique bamboo instrument: SOUND WORLD has been making Angklungs for over 30 years and is one of the very few makers outside South East Asia.
An Angklung is a pair or trio of bamboo chimes mounted on a frame which can be shaken to produce a delightful sound. Each individual Angklung produces a different note and a set of of several Angklungs are usually played like handbells, one frame per person, so that a melody is passed around a group. Complex compositions can be played with harmonies and intricate melodies.

SOUND WORLD makes sets of 8 Angklungs, usually tuned to a major scale (eg G-A-B-C-D-E-F#-G, with each of the Angklungs playing one of those notes).
The depth and quality of the note is enhanced because each Angklung has three tubes - the same note in three different octaves (eg low G-middle G-high G).
You can also order a set of Angklungs with two tubes per Angklung (eg middle C -high C) which are cheaper
You can order any specific scale: Contact Sound World for details
Additionally SOUND WORLD produces an optional stand that not only gives you a place to store the chimes, but which you can also use to play the Angklungs together. On the stand the Angklungs are tensioned so that they will vibrate back and forth so you can play melodies AND chords.
